H225M Caracal
EC725 Caracal


The EC-725 (now H225M) Caracal is the newest helicopter in the cougar family, based on the earlier AS532 A2 Cougar, developed by the French-German company Eurocopter (now Airbus Helicopters). There are 2 versions of the EC 725 Cougar. The civil helicopter has the designation EC 225 (now H225) and the military version EC 725 (now H225M). The first flight was in november 2000.
Operators
The EC-725 is/will become in service with:

1. France
2. Brazil
3. Mexico
4. Malaysia
5. Thailand

1. France
The French Air force has ordered 6 EC 725R2 helicopters for CSAR purposes. The French Special Operations Command has ordered 8 EC 725AP helicopters. The first EC-725 was delivered to the French air force in february 2005. All helicopters were delivered on May 10, 2007. The EC-725R2 helicopters are based at Cazaux.
 

The EC-725 has already seen operational in Lebanon and Afghanistan.

2. Brazil
On december 23 2008, Brazil ordered 50 EC-725 helicopters. Delivery will start in 2010.

3. Mexico
In march 2009, the Ministry of Defence of Mexico placed an order for 6 EC-725 helicopters for usage as military transport and civil security missions.

4. Malaysia
In June 2011, Malaysia ordered
12 EC-725 helicopters for the air force for SAR and utility missions.


5. Netherlands
On 5 June 2023, the Dutch Ministry of Defence announced that it bought 14 H225M helicopters for the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) to replace the 17 AS532 Cougars.
The H225Ms will be stationed with the 300 squadron as part of the Dutch Defence Helicopter Command (DHC) at Gilze-Rijen Air Force Base.

5. Thailand
In September 2012, Thailand ordered 4 EC725 helicopters
in the SAR configuration. The helicopters will be delivered to the Thai Air Force in 2015.
