The CH-53A has been developed by the American company Sikorsky. |

Germany
Since 1971, the German Army uses the CH-53G Sea Stallion. They have 80 CH-53G(S) of which some stationed on Achum airbase. They expect to keep them in service till 2030 (minimum). 40 of the CH-53's will be updated with an self-protection system, new communication, data transmission and navigation systems, flight management system, automatic pilot, FLIR, electro warfare system and an extra internal fuel tank. Updated aircraft will be designated with CH-53GA. In September 2012, Eurocopter delivered the firtst CH-53GA to the German Army.
